Crusoe Movie Poster
I create the pre-production movie poster for the NBC Universal adaptation “Crusoe”, starring Sam Neil and Sean Bean
I Really Put My Foot in It This Time!
To help promote the new Crusoe serial at a pre-production press launch a brand and poster were required, but as it was very early pre-production, there were no materials or assets that could be utilised. As we had very little to go, no idea who the actors would be and a rear shot of a model, initial sketches revolved around Crusoe standing in his tree-house looking out into the bay at an arriving ship.
All I had to work with was a shot from behind of a muscular man with a crew cut!Thankfully I knew the props would be supplied by Trading Post. Trading Post hire is an Aladdin’s Cave (they probably have an Aladdin’s Cave somewhere!), it’s full of all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff. I hunted around for gunpowder kegs, small barrels, rope & rigging, old bottles, lateens, chests, anything that looked like it could have washed ashore and been scavenged after a ship wreck.
While sitting at home over the weekend I was mulling over the logotype making sketches, when I had the idea of using Friday’s foot print that Crusoe discovers in the sand to represent the letter “r”. So I laid some paper on the floor and painted the sole of my foot and made a few prints. Once dried and scanned I positioned it within the name.
